Multiwave is presenting a paper at ICALEO 2009, Orlando, Florida, USA, on Nov. 3rd, 2009. This paper discusses changing the pulse width, pulse shape and pulse peak power to enhance the ablation process of a variety of materials. A MOPA-M-1um-10W system is used to demonstrate such results by operating the system at constant pulse energy and also at constant pulse power. Experiments demonstrate that optimization leads to improved material removal rates as well as reduction of processing time, with minimal HAZ and other side effects.
